Gmail Less Secure Apps Setting

Article Summary

Gmail users may receive the following error message when sending out email from Procare:

The title says: “Email Delivery Issue”. The message says: “Email has failed. If problem continues, please check your school’s email configuration settings or contact your network administrator. Verify all the SMTP server settings and connectivity…”

If you have already confirmed that this message is not a result of the Typical Causes of Email Error Messages, the issue/solution is likely that Gmail, in order to prevent unauthorized access to your email, requires you to allow access for what it calls “less secure applications”.

To enable the option in Gmail: Log into your account at Gmail.com, then open another tab and go the Less Secure Apps Setting, and select “Turn on”.

Note: If the Gmail screen does not have the choice to “Turn on” and “Turn off” access, then you have either a business class or Google apps account. Settings for these types of accounts can only be modified in the Google Console, which is accessible by your company’s system administrator.
