Practice in Procare

Article Summary

You may wish to practice, by entering sample data in Procare v10, prior to going “live” or prior to converting your information from Procare 9.1.

Before You Begin

When you first install Procare you begin with a blank database (no family or child information). You’ll want to Make a Backup, at that point, before entering any practice information. That way, when you’re done practicing, you can restore the backup and return to a clean starting point without any practice information.

Note: If you are using the Procare Cloud service all backups are managed by Procare. When you are ready to go live with v10 Contact Us and we’ll remove all of your practice data. Then you may re-convert your current information from 9.1.

Enter Practice Data

When entering practice information there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Don’t enter any real family, child or configuration information that you would want to keep. Remember it’s just practice.
Note: If you have just one location you may Convert Data from version 9.1 for practice, then re-convert later when you are ready to go live. If you have multiple locations re-converting may not be feasible. Contact Support for advice regarding your particular situation.
  2. Use your practice time to get familiar with moving around in Procare v10 and how to perform common tasks like adding Family Accounts, running Contract Billing and Batch Check In of children.
  3. If you are Converting from Version 9.1 your real data will come over later, as part of the conversion.

Remove Practice Data

Before going “live” (or converting your data to v10) you’ll want to remove any practice information you have entered. There are several ways to remove practice data:

Procare Cloud

If you using the Procare Cloud service, Contact Support to begin the process to have your data removed. This requires a signed agreement in order to proceed.

Restore a Backup
The easiest way is to Restore the Backup you made before any practice data was entered. Important! If you have multiple locations this process restores data for all locations at once.

Data Removal Utility
If you do not have a backup, you may request help from technical support in using a special data removal utility. This requires a signed agreement in order to proceed. Contact Support for details.

Uninstall / Reinstall
Another option, if you do not have a backup, would be to uninstall and then reinstall Procare. This is NOT an option if you use the Procare Cloud service.

  1. To uninstall Procare v10 go to Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Vista).
  2. Then reinstall Procare following the standard Installation Instructions. Once the reinstall is complete you’ll have a blank database again.
Important! If you have multiple locations, the uninstall process will remove data from all locations.

Keep Practice Data

If you choose to keep your practice data, your real data and practice data will all be together in the same database. This may happen because you began entering real data along side the practice data or because you converted data from version 9.1 (which adds to any existing data).

At this point you have the following options:

  • Leave things as they are and Void practice ledger card entries then mark those accounts as hidden (on the Account Information screen), or re-use the accounts for new families by typing over the practice information with real information.
  • Start over with a clean database, either by requesting use of the data removal utility or doing an uninstall/reinstall (as described above). If you converted to v10 you could then re-import the conversion file.
