Convert Multiple Locations

Article Summary

Examples of how multiple locations from version 9.1 may be combined or kept separate in v10.

Import Data from Multiple Locations

If you had multiple child care locations in version 9.1 each will be exported separately from 9.1. Then, during the import to v10, you’ll choose whether to import each to it’s own separate location or combine them into a single location. The following examples will help you decide the best approach for your situation.

Important!
Choose a time to import when other people will not be trying to access Procare. During the import process a large transaction is being recorded to the database and other people trying to use Procare at that time will experience unexpected results.

Example 1:

Combine to a single location (1 database)
Say you have two programs, an After School and a Preschool program. Both operate from the same physical location, but you kept the data separate using the 9.1 multi-site feature, or you may have had two separate installations of 9.1 (as with “mini” Procare). In v10 you’d like them to be combined. To do so you’d export them separately from 9.1, then import them into the same location in v10.

Example 2:

Keep the locations separate (1 database)
Same as above, except this time you want to keep your After School and Preschool programs separate. During import you’d choose to place the data into separate locations in v10. You’ll end up with a single database separated into two locations. You could run reports for each location separately or combined reports for all locations. If the programs operated from different physical locations you could access the information through Procare Cloud or by hosting your own Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Example 3:

Keep the locations separate (2 databases)
In this case the programs operate from two physically separate locations, with completely separate installations of v10 (separate databases). Each database would have just one location which you would select during import. Each location could run its own individual reports, but there would be no combined reporting.
