Tuition Express: Critical Security Update!


Article Summary

Applies to: non-Cloud customers of Procare Tuition Express

Importance: Critical. Action required by Wednesday morning, June 20, 2018.

What: Your computers must be compatible with (and have updates installed for) Procare 10.3, in order to use Tuition Express.

Why: This security update is required by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) to ensure secure electronic payments. Tuition Express may only accept transactions using the latest protocols for secure transmission (known as TLS 1.2).

Advanced Encryption Error: If your computers are not up to date, you will experience an “advanced encryption” error, such as “An error occurred initializing advanced encryption session keys”. The error will occur when trying to process Tuition Express payments through Procare itself or the check-in screen.

Step 1: Check Your Compatibility
Important! Be sure to run the compatibility check on each computer that runs Procare, including check-in computers.

Step 2: Do Your Computers Pass?

YES – All of my computers pass.

NEXT STEPS – If all passed, then:

a. Install the Procare Server Patch on your main computer only (your server).

b. Then, check for Online Updates from any one computer (done just once). From the Procare Home screen, go to Utilities > Check for Online Update. It’s okay if it says there are no updates. That’s it, you’ve successfully updated Procare.

NO – At least one computer does not pass.

NEXT STEPS – What does not pass?

a.) Windows does NOT pass

  1. If Windows DOES NOT pass:
    1. For Windows 10, check for Windows 10 updates. Open the Start Menu and go to Settings > Update & Secruity Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
    2. For Windows 8, follow the steps from Microsoft to upgrade to Windows 8.1.
    3. For Windows Vista, XP or other versions of Windows, you must upgrade to a current, supported version. Procare recommends Windows 10. See: System Requirements.
  2. After upgrading Windows, run the compatibility check again.

b.) Windows passes, but other components Do Not Pass

If Windows passes, but any of the other components do not pass:

  1. Click Update.

  2. A message lists the components that need updating. Say Yes.

  3. Follow the on-screen prompts. Note: Be patient. There may be a long delay between one item being completed and the next item starting its installation.

  4. You may be asked to reboot your computer. If so, make sure all programs are closed before choosing OK.

  5. After installing all the updates, run the compatibility check again. This time everything should pass.

NEXT STEPS – If all passed, then:
